Bamboo/Tetrapak Back porch roof

Hi there. Here´s my new bamboo structure with the recycled Natulam Tetrapak roofing from Natural Planet, Mexico. The posts are Guadua and the rafters are Oldhamii. All cured and treated in a Boron salt bath for insect protection.....

A fish-mouth cut for joint. I used a jigsaw to make the initial cut and then a rasp to fine detail for good fit.

The 3´columns are made with embedded steel bar bent into hooks, which the threaded bar pass through....

The double front horizontal support sits on a small helper

The center beam (my hand is on) is tied into the front horizontal support by two threaded bars that pass thought the middle of the culms and hooked on to a crossing bar, as shown in the following pic below. They pass through the horizontal supports and get a washer and nut.

The bottom culms get filled with mortar....

I have plans to add some ghost rafters to extend the laminate out a bit further.

Thanks for checking this project out. Its a lot of fun working with bamboo but can be challenging as its round and not perfectly straight, etc. Nonetheless, for me, it was well worth it. And a lot less money than building with steel.

Here are some newer house pics. We've been living in the house now for about 8 months. Finally got it painted! Cheers.
