Ourense to Lugo

 Hola Chicos,

Welcome to the ancient city of Lugo, the capital of the Province Lugo. It is the oldest city in Galicia since it dates back around 2,000 years. It's said that Between 260 and 325 the Roman wall was built. Lugo is the only city in the world to be surrounded by a completely intact Roman wall, which reaches a height of 10 to 15 meters, over 4 meters wide and is 2,117 m (over 1.25 mile) long, with 71 towers!

Here you can see the wall and some of the towers along it... (click to enlarge the pics)

I've waited many years to walk atop this wall!

In some areas where the towers are, the wall can reach 7 meters wide on top ....

The defenses of Lugo are the most complete and best preserved example of Roman military architecture in the Western Roman Empire.....

Besides the incredible Wall, Lugo has many other sites to see. Like the community veggie garden...

The 153 year old Viaduct de Chanca

The impressive Romanesque Lugo Cathedral was completed in 1273

And the back alleys of the inner city....

Jane and Castelao, the late Galician politician, writer, painter and doctor.

And finally our very nice apartment for the week....

OK Chicos, from here we'll venturing out and away from the cities for some hiking and biking.

Be well....KnJ
